Frequently asked questions

Short answers about Layro: connecting agents, installing, safety, licences, publishing and removal.

What is Layro?

Layro is a React component marketplace that coding agents can search and install from over MCP. It gives agents better taste: reviewed components made by people, in place of the same generic generated UI. Developers can browse the same catalog, watch every component run and install it with one command.

How do I connect my coding agent to Layro?

Run npx layro-cli mcp in your terminal: it asks which agent you use (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or Codex) and adds Layro with that agent's own setup, so there's no URL to type. Each agent's own way works too: claude mcp add --transport http layro https://mcp.layro.dev in Claude Code, the Add to Cursor and Install in VS Code buttons on the docs, or codex mcp add layro --url https://mcp.layro.dev in Codex. Any other MCP client takes https://mcp.layro.dev as a remote server. You sign in once in the browser; there are no API keys to copy.

How do I install a component from Layro?

Run npx layro-cli init --yes once in a React TypeScript project with Tailwind CSS, then copy the install command from any component page. The CLI writes the source into components/layro/ and installs its npm packages. It needs no account.

How do I publish a component on Layro?

Write it in the browser sandbox, connect a GitHub repo with a registry.json, ask your agent over MCP, or run npx layro-cli publish. Every way in goes through the same checks and review. Publishing needs a GitHub account.

Is Layro free?

Yes. Browsing, copying and installing components is free and needs no account, and publishing is free with a GitHub account.

Is code from Layro safe to install?

Every version gets a static scan and npm dependency checks before it can go live, and previews only run in a sandbox on a separate domain. Installs never run component code or package install scripts. Component code still comes from third parties, so read it before you ship it.

Does Layro work with shadcn?

Yes. Layro serves shadcn-compatible registry items, so every component can also be installed with the shadcn CLI. Layro's own CLI is the recommended way, and it needs no shadcn setup beyond a components.json, which it can create.

Who owns a component after I install it?

The source lands in your project and is yours to change. Its author keeps the copyright, and the licence on the component's page says what you may do with it and how to credit it.

How do I get my library or code removed from Layro?

If you own a library Layro indexed, email hello@layro.dev with its name, or claim it on its page and ask from there. For a copyright claim, email hello@layro.dev with the details listed on the Copyright page.

Still have a question?

Write to hello@layro.dev. A person writes back.
